We can use the “mosaic” metaphor for diversity, we can be represented as “tiles” of the mosaic and we are all characterized by diversity in gender, age, culture, sexual orientation, ability and disability; it means that each individual is unique.

The workshop which takes place at Sant’Anna School on December 13th at 9.00 am is dedicated to “diversity” and “diversity management”. Diversity is about differences and providing people with the opportunity to reach their full potential. Management of diversity is a multidisciplinary approach to the managerial and communication problems between individuals and organizations with diverse backgrounds.

International experts and representatives of public institution participate in the workshop jointly organized by Sant’Anna School Dirpolis (Law, Politics, Development) Institute and Trim2 which a few weeks ago set up a “think tank” in Florence. Participants include: Eugenio Giani, president of Tuscany Region Council; Matteo Biffoni, president of Anci Toscana, and Linda Laura Sabbadini, researcher at the Italian National Institute of Statistics (Istat). Manuela Perrone, journalist of Sole24Ore acts as a moderator. The workshop focuses specifically on self-awareness and the capacity to engage effectively with people from diverse background, understanding the concept of discourse in producing social reality and enhancing sensitivity, openness, trust and respect for human diversity. Integrating theory with real-world experience in order to recognize and understand the practical issues that arise when people with different experiences and world views work together, can help us to develop and apply appropriate responses to economic and financial crisis we are currently facing.
